2nd day Oakcliff

The team is in Oakcliff for the last event of the US Grand Slam series. Yesterday was the first day of racing but after a few hours of waiting on the water for some wind the race organizers sent us ian and called it a day. 

Today was a different story with breeze sitting out on the course just after 11. Although it was a fairly shifty day out on oyster bay the team managed to have a couple of good races

And a couple that we felt got away from us. After day two we sit on 3 wins 4 losses still plenty of races to go and the team is feeling good going into tomorrow.

2nd bite of the Apple

It's day two of the knickerbocker cup in New York. The team finished the round robin in 8th place which has earned us a spot in the quarterfinals. With the way the quarterfinals work the person who came 1st in the round robin versus the person who got 8th so we where put up against Nicolai Sehested of Denmark.

In the quarterfinals it is the first to 3 points and after 2 very close races today the Danish  team in ahead on two points. This is going to make some hard work to reel the points back in but the team feels confident and hopefully we can make some changes tomorrow.

Sailing in the big apple

The Team has arrived in New York for the knickerbocker Cup which is the third event of the US grand slam series. After a disappointing regatta in Detroit the team was looking forward to this event. The Knickerbocker is sailed on 40ft yachts purpose built for match racing. Today was our first race day and we have started out well finishing the day on 2 wins and 3 losses that where very close. 

We had great prestarts today always felt in control and managed to get a few penaltys on our opponents. The team will be on first thing tomorrow to take on the second group of competitors so a good feed and sleep tonight and we will be good to go tomorrow.

Shame in Chicago

It's been a tough two days for the team in chicago.  Yesterday the breeze was far better than they forecast with up to 13 knots of breeze. The team felt fast but with some questionable umpire calls and a few mistakes the team ended the day with two wins but we still had one more race against Roble to try and end the second round robin on three wins.

Today the breeze took its time to come to us in the morning. The fleet found themselves waiting for the breeze until after mid day but when you have a nice big house boat with Internet to wait on it doesn't seem like such a problem. Once the breeze arrived we were sent back out onto the boats for our last race against Roble. Off the start we felt good but Roble managed to make the first cross on the course and was able to hold just ahead until the end.

The team is disappointed but we still have 3 more regattas here in the US. The next being the Detroit Cup which will start on thuresday.

Chicago Grade 2

This weekend Freshie Racing Team are competing on Lake Michigan in Chicago for the Chicago Match Race Centre August grade 2. Yesterday was the first day and and the first round robin was completed in a 6 to 13 knot northerly breeze. Even though we are sailing on a lake the sea state was very choppy, which made it difficult to keep the boat moving. The team finished with 4 wins leaving us in 6th position after the first round. Today we will try to complete the 2nd round robin. As well as the tricky sea state and fickle breeze teams are having to contend with the noise and distraction of fighter jets flying at low altitude all day because of the Chicago airport and boats show! FRT are taking a short break from the match racing as Pete and Dave are sailing in the 505 World Championships in La Rochelle, France. OM Match Race day 2, Lake Ledro, Italy

A long day on the water today, we finished the 1 st round robin around 1300 and made a start on the second round robin. We finished the 1 st round in 5 th position with 5 wins and 4 losses. Are are currently on 3 wins and 3 losses in the second round, we will need to perform well in the remaining races of the round robin to stay in the hunt. 2nd in Hable

A cold and blustery day out on the Solent here in Southampton UK saw us racing the SB 3s without spinnakers, to our disappointment. But there were very interesting sailing condition with will up to 25 knots and up to 3 knots of current. We managed to win our best of 1 semi final against Sam Pearson but unfortunately lost the best of 1 final to Andy Shaw.

Good Day For FRT

Freshie racing team has had a good start to the 2012 Warren Jones Match Racing regatta in our home town of Perth. The day started off with very heavy winds and teams sailing with reefed mainsails and jibs. The breeze proved challenging for most competitors with winds slowly dying throughout the day but we managed to keep the boat going finishing the day on 3 wins and 2 losses.

The Team is feeling confident in their boat handling and tactics and are looking forward to racing tomorrow where we will be up against David Chapman first who after day 1 has had no losses.

FRT Just misses out on semis

 It was a tough day for Freshie Racing on day 3 of the Asian Match Racing Championships narrowly missing out on a spot in the semi finals. The day started with us against fellow Perth skipper David Gilmour, in the first round robin we manage to beat Dave but unfortuantly not the second time round. After lunch the breeze picked up and we were at the point were we had to beat Maximilian and the Zoke Team skippered by Seah Chin Yew. We managed to beat Maximilian but when we came up to verse the Zoke team a few costly mistakes lead to us losing and also losing a spot in the semis. The team in very disappointed but as Peter said in the media conference "we'll be back next year. Its not the end".

It was another hot humid day with interesting sailing here in Kuala Terengganu but the team is confident in their ability to close the gap tomorrow on one of the semi finals positions as we come to the end of the second round robin. Keep posted to see how we go!

Solid start for Freshie Racing at Asian Match Racing Champs.

Freshie Racing Team has arrived in Kuala Terengganu Malaysia for the 2011 Asian Match Racing Championships. Today was the first day of racing for the event and breeze was stronger and more consistent than any day during event last year. The team was off for the first race which gave us some good time to analyse the course. Our first race was against Reuben Corbett (AON RACING). This was a close race until the bottom gate rounding where the team chose tactically to go to the opposite mark to Reuben’s team. Our team lost out but manage to get the ground back by the top mark narrowly missing out at the end. After our first race the team had some great close races (with quite a few penalty’s) with teams such as David Gilmours team and Singapore’s Maximilian Soh (Team Send It Sideways). At the end of race day 1 Freshie Racing Team is at the top of the leader board sharing it with Will Tiller (Full Metal Jacket Racing) both on 4 wins 1 loss each. Freshie Racing and Full Metal Jacket will race off tomorrow morning for the last race of the first round Robin with the winner becoming top of the first Round Robin. The Team is confident and is looking forward to see what tomorrow brings keep posted to see how we go tomorrow.   

Freshie Racing takes out WA Match Racing Champs

Extreme weather conditions in Perth this weekend saw the format of the state match racing champs cut short on the final day with wind gusts up to 35knots. Freshie racing went undefeated in the 1st round robin to take the win.

disappointment for FRT at OM Match Race

Freshie Racing has had a disappointing regatta in Ledro for the OM Match race. The Grade 2 event had many top ranked skippers such as Reuben Corbett and Will Tiller from New Zealand. The team felt confident going into our first race of day 2 against Will Tiller, we managed to catch Tiller out at the top mark stopping him from bearing away and allowed us to gain the lead but just as the first day small complications led to leads being lost.
After the first race the team did not gain enough wins to qualify for semi's and ended in 11th place.

The team has now ended their 2011 Europe Tour winning 2 of our 4 regattas and begin training and planing for next year. Thanks for following the team and keep posted for future news on local events and our next season.

Clean Sweep for FRT first day of Lyon Match Race

After the First day at the Lyon Grand Prix Match Race FRT has had a very successful day winning all of our races in the round robin and also claiming a spot in the finals after winning our semi finals 2/0.
The team which includes part time member Tom Johnson sailed very well today with controlled pre-starts and good consitant legs. The breeze here in Lyon has been coming from a fairly consistant position all day so we have been able to get through most of the program with minimal time spent moving marks. The plan for tomorrow is that 7th to 5th will race in the morning and the top 4 will start racing around midday keep posted to see how we end up.

No luck in Slovenia

Today was a tough day for the Freshie Racing Team  after only winning one race in the repacharge. 

We felt we sailed well,  dominating most of our prestarts and control in the early pieces of the course but the shifty conditions proved to not be on our side. The team is disappointed with their position but already have their eyes on the next regatta in lyon, France which will start in a week.
